PHARE D'AGAY
Agay, France

This one came as a complete surprise. I had just finished taking pictures of a small harbor light in Antheor and was motoring down the coast from Antibes towards St. Tropez to find the rest of the lights that someone in the office in Sophia Antipolis had sent me on a map. This one wasn't on it, but as I came towards the curve in the road where it is located, I could see that all too familiar tower with the lantern on top. And there, in the curve is a little bit of a turn out/parking lot, so I quickly exited the road. France, by the way, is the first place I have driven where everyone else is not in the way. I seemed to be most of the time.
The grounds and tower are, of course, off limits to the public as are most I found in southern France. There were still many photo possibilities. The lighthouse tower is 16.25 meters high and stands 29.65 meters above sea level. The light turns off (occults) once every 4 seconds and can be seen 15 miles out. I believe it was established in 1944, but I could be wrong as my French is as good as my Turkish. I'll figure it out one day. It is an automated light, I do know that.
Cap Dramont is across the small cove that Agay marks the entrance to. It is a signal tower, or semaphore.
Here's how I
