BROWN'S POINT LIGHTHOUSE

Brown's Point Lighthouse sits in a well-kept little park out on the end of, you guessed it, Brown's Point. It's located on East Side Drive, Hwy 509, just south of Dash Point. A short, square, whitewashed tower stands as a solitary reminder to ships headed south that they are approaching the eastern entrance to Commencement Bay. Only 34 feet high, it commands an unobstructed view of the two incoming approaches. A pleasant place for an afternoon picnic.

Brown's Point started out as a light station in 1887, although I have no data as to what form of light it had. The keeper's quarter's were built in 1903 and then in 1933, the tower light was first lit. The present optic was installed in 1997 and they automated the station in 1963. You can't go in this one, though I imagine there is little to see or much room to move around in.  Several turnouts coming south down 509 for photo opportunities.
