EGMOND VUURTOREN

Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands

 

Where Ijmuiden is purely industrial, Egmond aan Zee is more like a beach town, from my recollection.  You drive in the main road and when you reach the dike turn right and drive along until you come to the vuurtoren. There is a row of parking along the road before the light and there is a lot next to the light. Wooden stairs give access to the sandy beach over the dike. Good places to view the light. 

 The light is sometimes called Van Speyk and was built in 1833. It stands 25 meters high and shines its light out 18 miles to sea. Notice that it sports the same weathervane as several other vuurtorens.
