HÖGBY FYR

Högby, Sweden

 

I could not find this one without help. I had to drive north from Kappelludden after my flat tire to find a gas station that had an air compressor. I got air and went looking for the fyr but had no idea and there were no signs. I went back to the gas station and asked the woman who had helped me with the air. She directed me back south from where I was. Take a particular left and then the immediate left fork. This wanders around until it comes out to a park like area with cattle grazing. It narrows down to a spit about as wide as the car, just a little more, and arcs out into the water like a scythe. As you can see, it is a skeleton tower with a center post for access to the lantern. This is an active light, but was on private property. You can see the word Stangt on the fence. That means Closed and keep out, loosely interpreted. 

I went up to the gate but kept out. I never got a very good vantage point of the whole tower, except from way across the spit. This was one of the prettier settings I saw in Sweden. My mother likes the cow photo.
