MARSHALL POINT LIGHTHOUSE

Marshall Point is a very beautiful setting. It rained my first visit and I didn't get to walk around for different perspectives. Second trip was nicer, but cold. The current tower is not the first but was established in 1857, with a 5th order lens to mark the eastern side of the south entrance to Port Clyde. Another short one, the tower out at the end of the catwalk is only 31 feet high and a focal plane 1 foot shorter. The present optic was installed in 1981 after they automated it in 1980.
Take 131 south to the end from Hwy 1 just south out of Rockland and just before Thomaston. The museum is open at some point but not while I was there.
