ÖLANDS NORRA FYR

Grankullavik, Öland Island
Sweden

So I said goodbye to the cows at Högby and proceeded north on 136 which had moved to the east side of the island. Up to the end of the island and then off to the right. Just follow the signs. This one is known as Långe Erik.  Stands a little over 31 meters. And according to the date chiseled in stone, it was built in 1845. It is a park of sorts and the tower is open to the public and can be climbed. It was not open at the time I was there.

It is quite beautiful on the ends of this island. Both north and south. There were lots of water birds and what looked like swans at the south end, but I saw people swimming in the water at the north end. Brrrrr. This was mid September. The ducks looked cold, I don't know how those people could stand it but they were splashing and playing like it was summer in San Diego.

The tower is over on a small island that you walk to over a bridge that was built on top of a rock levee. The photo with the little rowboat in it was taken near a small dock that had several boats moored, but seemed very neglected. One boat was under water but still tied to that dock.

Here's how I saw it:
