OLD POINT LOMA LIGHTHOUSE

San Diego, California

 

 

 Old Point Loma stands high above the Pacific Ocean, maybe 462 feet up there and was thought to be the ideal place for a lighthouse to mark the San Diego Bay. However the height proved to be its downfall, because the light couldn't be seen during times of heavy fog or low clouds. So in 1891, this lighthouse was decommissioned and New Point Loma was constructed on the beach below.
