PEMAQUID POINT LIGHTHOUSE

This is one I was looking forward to seeing, having chosen not to my first visit. One of my favorites on the Maine coast line. You gotta love these rocks. There is a nice parking area in front of the lighthouse grounds. A truly scenic location. Take 130 south from Hwy 1 in Damariscotta. It is about 16 miles. Worth the drive. If you visit any lighthouses in Maine, this should be on the list of first ones.
Made from rubblestone in 1835, the 38 foot conical tower was originally equipped with Argand lamps, then received a 4th order lens that is still in use. Sitting at the top of some of the most sculpted looking rocks I have seen, the focal plane of the light is 79 feet. The smaller white tower housed the works that sounded the fog signal.
