ROCKLAND BREAKWATER LIGHT

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is a long walk out that breakwater, let me tell you. And you gotta watch those blocks all the time or you'll trip and fall in the water. It looked cold to me on this day I was here, kinda rainy off and on.  Then there is very little room around it and I didn't see where people could go in it or if they did, I didn't try. 

My second visit was a drive by. I knew I wasn't going to hike out that jetty again. So I opted for main street, out the window telephoto shots.

The jetty was built first to protect the harbor from the onslaught of those fierce winter Atlantic storms. Then they built the light to protect themselves from the jetty. The first try was in 1888 and then rebuilt  as you see it here, in 1902. The tower only stands 25 feet high and once held a 4th order lens.
