PHARE DU ST-TROPEZ

St-Tropez, France

This was the most crowded I have seen of any lighthouse I have visited. Funny thing was, those people weren't there because they wanted to see the lighthouse. Le phare had the best view of the parade of sailboats, yachts, and other expensive looking boats, going in and out of the St-Tropez harbor. Hoping for a glimpse of a 'somebody'. I'll say it again though, there are some very rich people down in southern France.

I I followed the coast down from Antibes along N98. You make a wide loop around the end of the Golfe de St-Tropez. Turn left on D98 to go into the town. I couldn't find a parking space the first time through so I headed down to Cap Camarat which turned out to be the right thing to do, because when I came back I found a spot to park. I walked up close on the opposite side of the channel, but on seeing the crowd I figured I had no need to go over there and join them.

I know that this is a replica of an earlier lighthouse, and was built in 1999 and put in service in January of 2001. They call it Le Phare Rouge. Don't go on a weekend.

Here's how I saw it:
