The guy at the gas station in Emmeloord told me that Urk was a very religious place and that I would have to park on the outskirts of town and hike in a couple of miles, because they shunned technology on the Sabbath. Not good, I thought. The weather was okay, not too cold or raining, but I don't want to carry that camera bag two blocks. So I drove in towards the town. Parked as close as I thought I could but then someone would drive past and further in to town. I eventually drove right to the lighthouse. Not everyone observed that tradition, especially younger people and visitors. Very nice looking lighthouse.
