ZOUTELANDE VUURTOREN

During my first visit in September of 2001, I was heading south down the coast of Zeeland, the southern province or state if you will, after seeing and photographing the magnificent and ancient Westkapelle Hoog Vuurtoren. I came into this little town called Zoutelande and it was lunch time. I parked near a cool looking old church and a restaurant where I had something to eat after first hiking up the dike and looking to see if I could find the tower I saw referenced on a Dutch website. Nope. I asked in the restaurant and they pointed me back up the road. I could see it this time sitting up on the dike.
You can see in the photo above the wire fence that keeps folks like me from going up to it. It appears that there is this red drum up in the window. A light shines inside and the drum rotates to provide a flash.
