BLACK-FOOTED CAT

Felis nigripes

JBC Photography

Now isn't this the cutest little cat! It may look like a kitten, but it is in fact a black-footed cat, smallest of all felines. This one lives with another at the Riverbanks Zoo. They are behind glass in that Conservation Outpost walk through. You can usually find one or the other in one of the little hollow log sections in their enclosure. I have only seen them this animated once. Most of the time they are sleeping or lying down and cleaning.

I have waited for 30 minutes or so to get a couple of these photos. That's the lesson I keep getting when I go: Patience pays off, but you have to be quick to take advantage of it, because sometimes all you get is a shift in position and a quick glance your way.  And remember not to point directly at the glass when you use a flash.
