COTTON-TOP TAMARIN

Saguinus Oedipus

JBC Photography

I found this cute little critter at the Oakland Zoo. His cage is located over behind the Blue and Yellow Macaws. They are hard to photograph with that mesh screen. Plus they don't sit still much and there is lots of foliage in the enclosure. Anyway, I felt lucky to get this. And it is the only one I have. Didn't even see them my last visit. Maybe it is too cold.

Cotton-tops are only found in a very small range in Columbia and more live in captivity today than there are in the wild. This tamarin is often thought to be very intelligent due to its resemblance to Albert Einstein. Not really, I just made that up.

2/7/05 - I just went two days ago and hung around the enclosure for about 1/2 hour. Got some new photos. There's a small family in there, maybe 5 of them. They share they place with a toucan.
