WESTERN LOWLAND GORILLA
Gorilla gorilla gorilla

I don't think the person who gave the Western Lowland Gorilla its Latin name was in a very creative space when he/she did so. I don't always go by the gorilla enclosure at the SF Zoo for some reason that seems good at the time, but when I do go and the gorillas are not napping, they can be fun to watch and challenging to photograph, and I wonder why I don't stop by every visit. Especially if you could see some of the things I have. Cover the eyes of your young ones please!
I have actually taken lots of photos of gorillas at three zoos: Riverbanks, Woodland Park, and San Francisco and some at both places in San Diego - the Zoo and Wild Animal Park. All have the lowland species. There are several other species of gorilla but I have only seen this one.
I read or heard someone at a zoo say that gorillas think it is rude to stare and will turn their back to people who seem to be staring, especially when they eat. I think that was down in San Diego.
