SIAMANG
Hylobates syndactylus

One word: Loud... okay, two words: really loud. You usually hear them before you see them. These are the howlers of the zoo although there is the howler monkey, I have personally never heard them go off like the Siamangs do. Just one of them will start and they all pitch in to create quite the ruckus. Too bad they can't read the sign that says for us to be quiet because the nearby Chimpanzees are sensitive to noise. Siamangs could wake the dead.
The above photo was taken at the Riverbanks Zoo right before Thanksgiving. The story is that the mother rejected the baby and wouldn't care for it, so the male did. The keepers trained him to bring the baby to them so they could feed it. Then he'd haul it around with him on their island enclosure. He'd start yelling and swinging all about the trees trunks and branches they have placed in there for that. You have to wait for them to stop and be quick. Autofocus is the trick.
If you were thinking I was going to write some more things about them, well you were wrong. But here's a link where you can learn more: Siamang
