Snow Leopard
Uncia Uncia

Finally, the elusive snow leopard. I've tried at two other zoos and have not succeeded in getting a good picture of the beautiful cats. This pair lives at the Sacramento Zoo, in California. I feel lucky to get this good of a shot since their enclosure is behind a screened fence, that you can't stand next to. So focusing through it is a challenge and flash is impossible. Anyways, I am pleased with the results.
This is a female (lower) and her male offspring, I believe. I was here before and there was a very cute little cub and mother, so I assume these are the same with the cub having grown considerably.
The snow leopard is a very solitary animal. Lives and hunts alone in the high mountains of central Asia, only pairing up during breeding season, which occurs in late winter so that the offspring are birthed in the spring. Though it is a leopard, it does not roar.
Listed as a threatened species. Click here for more info: Snow Leopard
